25 November 2021: Lauded as “a magnificent piece of crime fiction” and “an ingenious novel within a novel” by The Sunday Times, Anthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders topped multiple bestseller lists in 2016 and now, Horowitz brings this unique crime drama to BritBox UK.

Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Let Him Go, Mum) heads a stellar cast including veteran British stage and screen actor Tim McMullan (Foyles War), BAFTA nominated Daniel Mays (1917, Line of Duty), Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard, Bridgerton); Michael Maloney (The Crown, The Trial Of Christine Keeler) and double Olivier award-winning Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), for the six part series which is directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty, Military Wives, The A Word), and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for MASTERPIECE and BritBox UK.

Magpie Murders is a crime drama with a unique twist. This intriguing series is a murder mystery within a murder mystery, spanning two time periods (1950s and contemporary Britain) with cast portraying multiple characters in different literary dimensions.

Susan Ryeland (Manville) is the editor for infamous, best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (Hill). When she receives an unfinished Conway manuscript, featuring his hugely popular detective Atticus Pünd (McMullan), she is set on a path with little idea that it will change her life forever.
